Ercom is a privately ownered French telecom test equipment manufacturer founded in 1986. The company has over 100 employees, is headquartered in Paris with international offices in USA and China.
Ercom's Mobipass product is used to validate and performance test LTE Small Cells and other LTE radio access and core network equipment. It emulates large numbers of UEs (e.g. 1000's of Smartphones), generating the full protocol stack for each device in real time and connecting to live network elements, such as eNodeBs, small cell, backhaul and core network equipment. This allows the actual behaviour of network equipment to be replicated and understood in the lab. This allows the vendor specific behaviour to be characterised, such as that of the base station scheduler which allocates radio resources.
New software releases, new features and new vendor equipment can be assessed before going live in the network, reducing both the time taken to approve prior to deployment and the risk of doing so.
Ercom claim their biggest differentiator to be that they can reproduce more accurately what happens in the real world. Each device emulated can be configured with different services used, mobility pattern and usage characteristics.
Ercom's products are sold both to network operators and equipment vendors
Feb 14: Ercom announce partnership with Infovista, interworking Mobipass with the Mentum radio planning tool. The data flow is bi-directional, improving both the resulting RF planning and accuracy of the network emulation.
Nov 13: Ercom announce major South Korean organisation as a customer.
