Multi-Operator Small cell Solutions for In-Building Wireless

Economically viable in-building solutions have become critical as mobile carriers expand and densify their 4G LTE networks and begin planning 5G access solutions to meet the ever-increasing capacity requirements.

Several current trends in the mobile market are defining a new “universal service” standard for cellular coverage, capacity and quality of service for every mobile user regardless of mobile network operator [MNO] affiliation. In this webinar we will explore the market trends and technologies that are enabling the critical evolution of small cells.  The cost advantages of neutral host access and cost effective radio access network [RAN] sharing allow the underserved enterprise customers to ‘take control of  their own destiny’ in getting high quality cellular service into their premises, with CapEx and OpEx savings of 50-80%.

Presenters: Randall Schwarz, Wireless 20/20 and Nick Johnson, ip.access

Laying the foundations for Phase Timing

Making best use of precious spectrum assets requires precise frequency and phase timing synchronisation. This is increasingly important as networks increase capacity through densification with small cells and advanced LTE features. All network cells must be traceably synchronised to UTC, which can be difficult in packet networks with asymmetric packet delays. Building on years of experience and extensive field trials, Microsemi have evolved a product suite that delivers accurate frequency and phase timing at the network edge, making full use of the growing number of GNSS satellite constellations combined with wireline packet synchronisation.

In this webinar, Eric Colard, Head of Emerging Line of Business for Synchronisation at Microsemi, shares his experience gained from extensive field trials and discussions with operators in many regions, revealing many practical aspects and deployment issues. He explains how the relevant technical standards affect design choices, how GNSS signals can be received indoors - even inside windowless basements, why mounting on walls and ceilings can give differing results, and why common solutions are sought for both indoor and outdoor sites.

Overcoming high deployment costs of synchronising Enterprise Small Cells

LTE-Advanced features require tight frequency and phase timing to synchronise with other nearby cells and are far more demanding than 3G or even the initial LTE services. This is particularly difficult to achieve indoors where satellite GNSS signals are weak. Often the deployment costs far exceed those of the equipment where external GPS antenna are used, such as negotiating rental of suitable roof space, cabling for external GPS antennas, installation and ongoing maintenance. Reliance on a single technology also raises availability concerns in case of outage.

This webinar reviews the importance of phase timing and how best that can be achieved for indoor small cells. Microsemi will also introduce an innovative solution that drastically reduces installation and deployment costs while achieving the high precision of frequency and phase synchronisation required.

The Enterprise - Unlocked: Enabling Rapid Adoption of Enterprise Small Cells

Following on from ThinkSmallCell's recent "The Enterprise – Unlocked" white paper, join me with thought leaders from Cisco and iBwave to discuss:

  • How the incremental cost of adding cellular service to an Enterprise Wi-Fi deployment can be as low as 20%;
  • When and why the RF design can be assigned to field technicians and personnel with basic IT background;
  • What the main concerns and bottlenecks that constrain this approach are.

We report with real-world feedback from the field, where both companies are actively trialing and deploying products in countries worldwide, and ask challenging questions about the feasibility of this approach.
