NSN first announced successful interoperability tests with Airvana for voice calls in September 2007. The intention was that NSN could offer an additional channel to market as an end-to-end supplier for its existing wide customer base. However, this did not gain market traction and Airvana discontinued its UMTS product line. Ubiquisys collaboration agreement was announced in January 2008.Netgear (which incorporates a Ubiquisys femtocell in its modem products) also announced collaboration in February 2008. Pirelli Broadband (who originally incorporated an Airvana femtocell in their set top box products) announced a collaboration agreement in May 2008. Pirelli was renamed as ADB and they changed femtocell supplier to Ubiquisys and are believed to still offer their integrated femtocell set-top box solutions through NSN. Rather than developing their own femtocell, Nokia-Siemens Networks has developed a femtocell gateway and resells femtocells from other vendors such as Ubiquisys. NSN has also been pioneering 4G femtocells especially for the Chinese market where it has demonstrated their own LTE-TDD solution.
