Tata ElxsiTATA Elxsi, a division of the multi-national TATA group based in India, is an embedded design company offering a range of engineering products and services to the electronics industry. Their embedded design business division provides integrated LTE Baseband (Layer 1), Protocol stack software (Layer 2/3) and services to OEM developers of LTE femtocells.

Their software is customised to address both Macro/Micro basestations as well as Pico/Femto. Their services include core development, testing, field integration and interoperability testing of GSM/GPRS/3G-CDMA2000, W-CDMA, UMTS, WiMAX in base station nodes and terminal devices.

Their extensive portfolio allows them to address all of the main flavours of femtocell network architecture, RRM, SON and Scheduler NMS/EMS.

History

TATA Elxsi first announced their LTE protocol stack with Wintegra in Nov 2009, with the L1 running on TI chip and L2/L3 running on the Wintegra platform.

They later announced their LTE protocol stack jointly with Cavium Networks (another chipset vendor) in February 2010.
This runs on the Kontron AM4211 AMC hardware based on the latest Cavium Networks Octeon 63xx processor.

Announced migration to next generation TI chip Nyquist and migration of Cavium to 63xx series.

The protocol stack was ported to the Freescale platform by February 2011. Initially running on the P2020 and claimed to work also on the P3041 and P4080 for Pico and Macro designs.

All three hardware platforms continue to be supported, with a roadmap to develop later 3GPP standards releases.

3GPP Release 9 compliance was announced in June 2011.

TATA Elxsi are full members of the Femto Forum.

Product Scope

The company offers integrated LTE software solutions compliant with 3GPP standards, including L1, L2, L3 and integration to the RF front end. It doesn’t make or manufacture its own femtocells, instead enabling OEMs to develop their own. The software runs on a range of different vendor chipsets, allowing their customers to avoid long term lock-in to a specific choice.

They also offer testing, support and custom engineering services, IOT and field trial support as required.

Their customers have designed larger macrocell LTE basestations and but a growing minority of femtocell OEM designers have selected their software.
