optimus Optimus Portugal launched a femtocell service in December 2009. Named Sinal On, the solution is sold through the business unit Optimus Negocios.

Priced at 99.90 Euros, there is also an ongoing monthly fee of 7.70 Euros which includes 50 free minutes of fixed-to-mobile calls to Portugal and Spain.

The advantages claimed for this service include coverage of 700 square metres and up to 4 simultaneous calls/sessions.

Optimus presented at the IIR Inbuilding Summit 2010 which we reported. They explained how they had redirected their budget for cellular coverage improvements - previously spent on repeaters or more expensive in-building DAS solutions - and are now spending on femtocells instead. This has allowed them to reach a much wider range of business customers, including many smaller businesses where investment would not have been viable, effectively meaning that their budget has achieved a wider impact across their customer base.
