Chunghwa Taiwan

Chunghwa Logo This Taiwanese mobile network operator is known as an early adopter of new technology. It joined the Femto Forum in September 2008, and publicised a user trial with Alcatel-Lucent starting in December 2008. Somewhere between 300 and 1500 femtocells were involved.

In July 2009, Nokia-Siemens Networks provided a femtocell testbed.

Various Taiwanese firms are also likely to benefit, because many femtocell vendors outsource their manufacturing to Taiwanese companies.

However, the national regulator did not agreed to the launch of femtocells at this stage, citing issues including both technical and competitive aspects with the fixed network providers.

In 2011, the regulatory regime changed and Chungwha announced it had completed procurement and would supply femtocells free to its higher value and business customers where needed.
